Ivy is introduced in the Arkham Asylum after Harley had been inside for six months. Ivy kidnapping Harley, having knocked her out with a pheromone toxin For her help, Ivy became good friends with Harleen until she left to become Harley Quinn, the Joker's sidekick and girlfriend. Harleen had diagnosed Ivy as a "classic misanthrope with abandonment issues who befriends plants to avoid human intimacy", and was so successful with her that she managed to get Ivy to the point where she could be around people without vomiting - although she still loathed it. With this bonding experience, Ivy began to open up to Harleen and used her as her new psychologist, the only doctor who ever managed to get through to Ivy and truly help her. She then nervously asked her to become her new psychologist before being sedated and taken back to Arkham. Harvey Dent and the Arkham guards caught up with them and as Harvey shouted to kill them all, Ivy looked over at a scared Harleen and suddenly raised her hands and surrendered. Harleen asked her why she had saved her and Ivy admitted that no one had ever given her a gift before and reached out her hand to help her up. When the Joker made his escape with Harleen as his captive, Poison Ivy saved her when the guards began shooting at them. Poison Ivy was acidic and hateful to Harleen but helped her accidentally, which Harleen appreciated, giving her a flower in return which Ivy greatly appreciated. Harleen eventually came to Ivy for help figuring out the Joker in order to get him to reveal the location of a bomb. Harleen Quinzel, the new psychologist in the asylum, saw her being burnt by the staff after attempting to escape and showed concern for her but Ivy promptly told her to "fuck off". Ivy eventually ended up in the Arkham Asylum for her crimes, frequently fighting with the guards whenever live plants were accidentally presented to her (such as when the cafeteria accidentally bought live lettuce). She was frequently propositioned to join the Legion of Doom for her successes, but she rejected their invitations 148 times. Later in life Pamela went on to gain her doctorate in biochemistry at Sarah Lawrence College, briefly dating a man named Dan there, and shortly after assumed the identity of Poison Ivy, a self-styled "eco-terrorist" fighting for the environment using her power to control plant life. This abuse was what caused her to give up on humanity. Unfortunately, one day she accidentally stumped upon her father cheating on his wife which he punished her for by beating her. She got her first plant, a ficus she named Mr. This was exacerbated by her own parents mocking her over it and emotionally and physically abusing her. Even as a child, she was a meta-human with green skin, which made her stand out and hampered her ability to make friends. Pamela Isley was born to incredibly wealthy parents but was not born as a usual human. Also, in the The Eat, Bang, Kill Tour she is wearing a teal shirt and black ripped jeans that she got from a store in Gotham Mall. At her wedding to Kite Man, she wore a long wedding dress with lace sleeves and was wearing an extension wig underneath her real hair. In episode eight, " L.O.D.R.S.V.P.", Ivy wears a green bikini and a scuba diver's goggles. In Arkham, she wore an orange prison suit just like Harley and the other inmates. In her pajamas, she wears a "tree hugger" shirt with green sleeves on it and green pajama pants. She usually wears a green jacket and a white shirt underneath it, with green tights and black high heels. She has long red hair and styles part of her hair on the left side, almost covering her eye. Ivy is a slender woman with green skin, green eyes, and green lips - all of her outfits also heavily favor green.

Pamela and Harley first meet in an episode of Batman: the Animated Series before Harley makes her debut in comics, and the pair's relationship has grown ever since. One of the most popular villains in Batman's rogue's gallery, Poison Ivy has turned into something of an antihero while working alongside Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey. Summary: Modeled after the pin-up model Bettie Page, Poison Ivy was introduced in the mid-1960s as a potential love interest for Batman (see Batman #181, 1966) and there has always been some sexual tension between the two characters.
